11th May 2018
Winter is coming and it’s getting cold outside. But that doesn’t mean you have to be.
As cold as it may be, the Swan Valley is more beautiful than ever.
And with red wine, fortified wine, fire places and hearty, hot meals galore, why wouldn’t you let the Swan Valley warm you up this winter?
Ready to get warm, but just not sure where to begin?
In our latest blog, we provide you with a little guide to warming up in the Swan Valley this winter.
Roast up with a roaring red wine
There is nothing quite like a glass of red wine on a cold winter’s day, to heat things up.
From a light Pinot Noir, to a heavy Shiraz, the Swan Valley has an array of wineries, with the perfect roaring red wine for you.
Feel particularly warm when drinking red wine? You’re not imagining things.
It is actually one of the body’s natural reactions to the tannins and histamines that are found in the skins of red grapes that’s making you so warm! Not only that, alcohol dilates blood vessels throughout the body and increases blood flow through the extremities and to the skin.
This powerful combination makes it the perfect drink to help you warm up in winter.
Warm your heart with a hot winter’s meal

Similarly to red wine, there is nothing quite like a hot winter’s meal to warm your heart.
Swan Valley is home to some of the best restaurants in WA, making it the perfect location to warm your heart with a hot winter’s meal. And with over twenty different restaurants to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice!
Our Swan Valley wine tours, include an exquisite two course meal at Mandoon Estate – one of our favourite spots to eat!
From freshly-baked warm bread served with beautiful oils, to drool worthy beef cheek braised in red wine, a homemade winter’s soup, sweet warm desserts, and much more, the Swan Valley has your hot winter meals covered.
Find your warm and fuzzies with fortified wine

Looking for yet another way to warm up?
Find your warm and fuzzies with some fortified wine.
“What is fortified wine?” I hear you ask. Fortified wine is a wine to which a distilled spirit, usually brandy, is added. Many different styles of fortified wine have been developed, including Port, Sherry, Madeira, Marsala, Commandaria wine, and the aromatised wine Vermouth.
Some Swan Valley wineries make fortified wine too! The Swan Valley has the perfect climate to produce fortified wines, so a taste of these is a must!
Olive Farm Wines have a range of fortified wines from a Tawny Port, a Liqueur Muscat, to even a Liqueur Shiraz.
Get cosy by a Swan Valley fire
What goes perfectly with a red or fortified wine and a hearty, hot winter’s meal? A fire of course!

Some of the incredible venues within the Swan Valley are home to a fireplace too! So, why not head to one of those venues and get cosy with a red wine by the fire?
Sandalford Winery, Swanbrook Winery, Chapel Farm, The Rose & Crown and Caversham House, are all home to a fireplace, just to name a few.
Winter is coming and it’s getting cold outside. But that doesn’t mean that you have to be. Warm up in the Swan Valley this winter!
